NY Burrito- 17th and State. veggie burrito on spinach tortilla. medium and hot salsa, cheese, lettuce, blackbeans, rice. these burritos tend to be dry. Kinda expensive for what you get; i think around 6 bucks + tax and tip.
Parilla Grill- 13th Street. service is truly hit or miss, best bet is to have a friend working there/make friends with someone that way your 10 burrito punch card gets extra chile stamps. Veggie fajita, white rice (way better than the spanish; usually fresher too), grilled peppers and onions, black beans, cheese, olives, guac, cucumber jalapeno salsa and the rustic habenero if i'm in the mood for extra spicy. 6.50ish +tax and tip, free once you get that card punched.
Casa Mexico- 13th Street. sit down restaurant. fucking sucks. cheese is factory shredded (not a totally bad thing, but sucks because it isn't melted). they use the veggie medley that's frozen with cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots. the refrieds are gross. they tend to fuck up, and there are way too many TVs there. this place was blacklisted when they brought me a chicken burrito and then when i sent it back it came with the unmelted cheese and fucking ice crystals in the cauliflower. i hate cauliflower. then the lady tried to charge me still. i was 5G.
Pollo Rey- not my favorite. i usually feel odd after eating there. i think their veggies are frozen maybe... veggie supremo (or whatever) has zucchini, corn, tomatos, rice, pinto beans. honestly i can't remember what the fuck is on it, because i stopped eating there a while ago. the chico size is plenty though. probably 6 bucks.
KBs- Capital Blvd. at Bodo. initially hoping it meant Kind Burritos. only a few blocks from pollo rey. worth extra 2 minute bike ride. the small is plenty. black bean + tofu, tomato, cilantro, and the medium salsa. i usually add onions too. the guy working makes the burritos best... the girl tends to forget shit. best time to go is around 7 or 8. 6 bucks plus tax and tip, no punch card, unfortunately. guy will remember your order after a couple times through. pretty sweet. 6 bucks.
Roques- Formerly on the island at 28th and state, now almost to meridian on chinden. haven't been to the new one, but the old one had the best sit-down mexican restaurant burrito i've ever had. tons of super fresh peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, cilantro, cheese... damn fine. i never did finish the whole thing in one sitting. 8 bucks + tax + tip. was worth it.
Chilangos- Truck downtown; shop in the old chicago connection next to Jolleys (which is about to become a sinclair) on state street. It's mediocre, and moves through you fast. Veggie burrito is like refrieds, lettuce, and a little cheese. once there were tomatoes. about 5 bucks, plus tax. probably better tip.
Chela's- right down the street from flying pie on state, Bloom Street stoplight by the motocross store. this is my new favorite place. it's got the "taco truck in a building" vibe. the menus are the old school letter kind, and have the foods in english and spanish. paco makes the burritos, and he's there open to close 6 days a week. there are tables to sit down at, but i take it to go. the atomosphere isn't really that great, but they just started up about a month ago and are still getting settled. veggie burrito has melted swiss cheese, fresh avocado, rice, tomato, pico de gallo, pinto beans. it comes with chips. the green salsa is pretty spicy, and the red salsa is ridiculous. i wish they had a litle more body to them, but hey. the veggie burrito is only 4 bucks and some change! i totally reccomend them. Sorry i'm a pussy that doesn't eat meat, but i bet the meat options at these places are fine.-taylor bell..heisted off
